This course is aimed at GPNS, AHP and advanced practitioners and is open to all health professionals that are assessing, triaging, and managing patients within primary care. The aim of this workshop is to build on or refresh your history taking and assessment skills of patients presenting with potential neurological disorders.
With an appreciation for the complexities of neurological diseases, having a systematic approach to assessing the patient is crucial and the clinician will have confidence to rule in or out red flags. In addition, treatment pathways / NICE guidance will be discussed and applied with case studies and workshop learning.
The day will be interactive and there will be an informal opportunity for participants to share practice.
Course Content
- Appreciate the importance of precise history taking when considering a neurological disorder
- Have an awareness of ‘red flags’, medications, treatment pathways and differential diagnoses in neurological presentations
- Improve knowledge and skills on crainial nerve examination, to include the relevance of positive and negative findings
- Improve competence regarding appropriate referral pathways
