This course is appropriate for the new learner in wound care (GPN or HCA), or as a comprehensive update and refresher for the more experienced practitioner.
This day will enable the practitioner to be able to confidently carry out an evidence-based assessment of a wound in a structured format, appreciating the link between wound healing and a patient’s underlying health & lifestyle. The course will discuss terminology, identifying the stages of wound healing and appreciating how to describe and estimate a wound in order to plan care. Focus will also be given on recognising and acting on barriers to healing such as infection, inflammation & biofilm formation safety netting for appropriate referral & review dates.
The afternoon will be a group workshop, exploring how dressings work, clarifying the different groups and actions, and selecting the 'right' dressing/regime. Local wound formularies will be discussed, for order and storage of dressings and most importantly to achieve the best outcome for wound healing.
